Thangalaan

Once upon a time, there was a tribe whose chief was the savage Thangalaan. In the story, Lord Clement, a British General, requests their help to find gold in their area. Because Aarathi has the appearance of a witch and they are the ones who want the money, they are the ones who instigate her into a rage.

As Aarathi was a proud man in his authoritative way, Thangalaan starts out for he is the one who has the capability to end it, and a series of happenings takes place which make the tribal people rise and the struggle shows their solid support. The movie, apart from being just a historical fiction, fictitious but with some historical elements, is also a mixture of magic and adventure, reminiscent of the folklore.

Thangalaan Explained

The Thangalaan play is a play that is centered around the characters exclusively, and therefore the play is a plethora of layers that go out to show the social, economic, and cultural concerns that were present during that time. A magical element of the movie is that it brings out hidden agendas among those in positions of power who can show that the less fortunate are suffering from slavery and other injustices. Pa. Ranjith comes up with a film that is daring not only in its visual outlook but also in its sociopolitical comment.

Most significantly, the Thangalaan movie captures the tussle for respect and justice by the community of indigenous people in an excellent scene at the climax.

Thangalaan Reviews

The film has seen mixed feedback yet a good number of people have highly appreciated its being called bold and daring. The film is preferred for its good spectacle and in particular for the whole cast's very successful and significant performance, particularly that of Vikram.

On the other hand, a review from the audience has it that the film touches mild magical realism and that it has a strong message about the society. Although there were comments on the meaning being a little unclear, the viewers also felt that the character of the film could have been regarded by a more convoluted story.
