World of War Z
Former UN investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) lives a tranquil life with his wife Karin (Mireille Enos) and their two kids. When a mysterious virus begins to spread, infecting those with it into fast-moving, aggressive, zombies, their tranquility is destroyed. Once infected, the virus is fast-moving and causes chaos and panic among the countries of the world.
The United Nations recruits Gerry to trail the source of the outbreak and may even find a cure. He begins travelling across the world, visiting places like South Korea, Israel, and Wales. The military of each location is overwhelmed, and dangerous as well as desperate civilians. Gerry encounters many things along the way and faces many difficult decisions in order to ensure his family’s safety and find a way to stop the zombie apocalypse.
World War Z Movie Explained
A high-stakes thriller that paints alarming pictures of what happens when light touches darkness, and lingers on the consequences of harnessing the power of fear, World War Z is an action thriller, a wall of sound whose cinematic implications based upon threats to civilization creates an immediate political mold already ground solid enough to identify any figure within it.
Gerry is on the edge of his seat throughout the film as the fast-paced narrative keeps him on the knife edge whilst racing against time to solve the global crisis. The zombies that appear in World War Z are very different from normal depictions in that they are fast, intelligent, and able to coordinate their attacks, making them a very powerful enemy.
The climax of the movie is in a high-security research clinic where Gerry and a team of scientists have gone to work understanding the virus and developing a cure. Gerry’s most dangerous challenge yet is flung at him in the final act, which is full of tension and suspense. The closing of the movie gives a way out to the current immediate crisis but suggests sequels might come.
World War Z Movie Reviews
Only a mixed response was received from reviewers about World War Z. The film received praise for its action sequences and Brad Pitt's performance, while the source material deviation and a lack of depth were some other points criticized.
"The movie plays as if somebody watched the similar '28 Days Later' and thought, 'That was a good movie, but it would be even better,'" noted Matthew Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com if it cost $200 million, there were millions of zombies, and the hero was perfect and played by Brad Pitt.'" And he said the PG-13 rating of the film allowed for 'horrendous violence … that you can’t even see or it’s cutting under the frame line but … it doesn’t lessen the blow.'
On the other hand, a user review on IMDb rated the film with 7.5/10 in line with the direction and action. The reviewer found the film competently directed by Marc Forster, delivering action, and especially from tension and the remarkably exciting scenes.
