Under Paris is a survival thriller that premiered on Netflix on June 5, 2024. It is in the heart of Paris that all sorts of unexpected terrifying events happen. In the story, it is about a race that takes place in the Seine River, where a group of triathlon athletes are competing. However, as the race starts, a massive shark attack takes place, and the event becomes a nightmare.

So the survivors must navigate the treacherous waters, the city's subterranean tunnels, the shifting tides, and the unseen enemy in order to escape. However, the film also explores the political and economic aspirations that led to the race being contested, where it was somehow held despite safety concerns, especially in the context of social commentary.

The survivors — which includes grieving activist Bérénice Bejo and cop Nassim Lyes — have to band together in order to survive. Given that Netflix has already confirmed that it’ll have the money to make the sequel, that leaves the door open for one! The second installment, under the title Under Paris 2, will begin shooting in late September 2025 with the key cast returning.

When the movie Under Paris first came out, it had mixed reviews. It became the chart-topper in 93 countries and was considered to have a great plot and some satirical elements, but it didn't pass when it came to character chemistry. Xavier Gens has been praised for his fresh take on the shark genre and the film was not considered a contemporary "Jaws," though criticisms have been aimed at it.
