Manhole
Manhole is the name of a situational thriller that will centre on Shunsuke Kawamura, an excellent real estate salesman just before his wedding, in a situation that looks very complicated for himself. The night before his wedding, Shunsuke drops in for a surprise party, and then eventually ends up in an open manhole, feeling woozy. Trapped in a dirty concrete manhole, Shunsuke has a well of blood from a broken ladder and a deep gush in his thigh, there is no easy way out.
His only lifeline comes in his cell phone and as he tries to call for help, no one answers his phone. Only an ex-girlfriend who refuses to help is the only one to respond. Shunsuke is desperate as he turns to social media, creating a fake profile called ‘ManholeGirl’ to get attention and help. It’s a movie where manhole diving somehow intertwined with social media satire along with survival tactics.
Manhole Movie Explained
It is an intriguing and unpredicted plot. An unsparing contrast, it throws the perils of life in the face of Shunsuke, from being a successful businessman about to marry the daughter of a CEO to a man trapped in his manhole. Social media platforms such as “Pecker” (a satirical take on Twitter) and “ViewTube” (an imitation of YouTube) are used by the movie to penetrate in the darker side of social media and themes of online manipulation.
The twist in the film's climax adds some extra degree of complexity to the narrative. Although there are some implausibilities and twists that might be too far-fetched, the movie does not lose any level of engagement.
