What’s the story?

The Last Black Man in San Francisco Full Movie: Jimmie Fails occasionally questions if he is the only black guy living in San Francisco. Jimmie is forced to share a small apartment in a decaying, poisonous neighborhood with his closest buddy after being kicked out of the gorgeous Victorian mansion.

He and his family have lived in for generations, Montgomery (Jonathan Majors), and Mont’s grandfather (Danny Glover). He fantasizes about the life he could have with money, space, and a city that allowed him to live comfortably while working regular jobs. When the opportunity to inhabit his former house arises, he takes it, regardless of the cost.

Is it any good?

This story of an ordinary guy crushed by tremendous forces is luminously beautiful and completely memorable. It might be the finest film about San Francisco anyone has ever created. Right away setting itself apart from lesser San Francisco-set flicks (which usually have Pacific and Golden Gate Bridge flashes before cutting to Los Angeles interiors).

“Just Added”

Last Black Man begins with a bravura tracking shot in which the two main characters gracefully share a skateboard, gliding over hills and city streets from the depressed neighborhood. They live in to the sparkling street where Jimmie’s old family house sits. A white lady currently inhabits the house and dislikes how Jimmie secretly visits to nurture the garden or touch up the paint on an outside windowsill.

“What do you want, man?” she pleads Jimmie, both perplexed and enraged by the intrusions. Jimmie isn’t sure what he wants, but once inside, he knows he doesn’t want to leave. Nonetheless, fans anticipate Jimmie’s situation will not end well. He is so impoverished that he wears the same clothes every day.

And his family’s previous mansion, adorned with stained glass and original wood that the camera lingers over as if recording a sex scene, would cost several million dollars. He works at a hospice and his father lives in a flophouse hotel. In lengthy, beautiful images, viewers identify with Jimmie’s predicament, the misery etched on Fails’ expressive face. You can’t help him. But, oh, you will want to.
