The second novel in Caroline Kepnes' 'You' series, 'You Love Me', continues the scary, thrilling, and at parts rather amusing characters and tale of the passionate and manipulative antihero ourselves: Joe Goldberg. Chillingly spoken, this audiobook version properly reflects the character of Joe’s psyche and leaves the listener trapped, to the point of being pursued right together with the protagonist. The second person narrative of the novel with the audiobook’s narration style provides the listener a genuinely bizarre yet unpleasant experience.

    Plot Summary

This is where the first novel breaks off: Joe Goldberg, attractive but lethal new owner of a bookshop in New York, persists his character growth in this second story. Now, though, he’s far from the infatuation he was with Beck, and rather he’s infatuated with another target, Love Quinn, Guinevere Beck’s sister. Joe quietly plots his course, utilizing his charm and his wits to navigate his way past anyone in his path. It's a psychological thriller that dives deep into the black of human nature, with stalking, influencing and trying to answer to what is precisely the same as love or control.

    Characters

    • Joe Goldberg: There are characteristics of a complicated character dark past with Joe the the hero of the narrative and the antihero of the story. I’d describe him, brilliant, charismatic and manipulative which made him interesting and dangerous at the same time. One cannot not but want to know what is going on within his tortured head yet his internal monologue done with dreadful accuracy alleviates that, if anything.
    • Love Quinn: Love, an an overview of a successful journalist who knows nothing about Joe’s genuine interest, is the new thing that Joe is infatuated with. While powerful and independent, she is sucked into Joe’s web of deceit and manipulation.
    • Guinevere Beck: In a way, Beck isn’t a key character, but she hovers over this work, spurring Joe to action and coloring his fixation with Love.

    Themes

    • Fixation and Control: The fixation with Joe’s compulsive conduct and the urge for him to regulate who is around him all hint to the storyline. His use of Love and the people she covers herself with makes obvious how unbridled obsession may kill.
    • Identity and Manipulation: There’s a theme: Joe can receive identities and situations to work for him anyway he wants. Using his brilliance and charisma he has established fake realities for others, he now merely has to develop genuine ones.
    • Love and Deception: The book explores what love is and how much you may be tricked. Joe’s interpretation of love as something of a control opposes the societal definition of a romantic connection.

    Conclusion

A voyage into the thrillers “You” keeps going with this, “You Love Me,” in compelling, unnerving form. The audiobook of Caroline Kepnes’ writing, and the narration, combined create a unique and fascinating narrative that makes you mistrust everything and saps your dried blood out of your ears. Thought-provoking as well as terrifying, the story is a must listen for fans of thrillers.
