Since forever, viewers have been captivated by action movies with high-speed chases, flying through the roofs, fighters and the stories that would always be (are) remembered. Even though tastes always vary, some are the films that time calls its own and which have been pushing the boundaries of the genre. So, following this idea, here are the action films that marked the best of all time, but without any particular ranking.
1. Die Hard (1988)
Top 10 Action Movies: Die Hard was the film that not only made Bruce Willis an action star but also which allowed John McClane, the average cop stuck in a highrise takeover by terrorists, to be the embodiment of the action genre. The film had already set the modern action movie standard, being packed with an incredibly strong performance in terms of writing, excellent editing and an evil character that was very charismatic (Alan Rickman’s Hans Gruber).
2. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
You move at a constant speed here, as George Miller’s desolate future, post-apocalyptic Hell is in full swing. Another wild and crazy ride through the desert. Fury Road presents a lot of brutal chases, violence and Charlize Theron portrayed Furiosa in such a masterly manner that she was practically someone with superpowers.
3. The Dark Knight (2008)
Top 10 Action Movies: The Dark Knight of Christopher Nolan, which is a superhero film if it comes to that, is the action, crime, and mental drama so skillfully combined that the line between them is almost invisible. The film is a classic, with such a powerful interpretation of the traditional character of Joker (Heath Ledger), it has developed into a rather dark, even a tragic figure and is not only a Batman movie but also full of the most exciting scenes (like the so-called truck flip).
4. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
It has been a journey to the cinema that was powered by (the film’s) innovative effects and a character that still to this day is considered one of the biggest action heroes – Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 – from W.J. James Cameron’s sequel. T2 is still a science fiction movie that is thrilling and tearing apart with fascination and tears all at the same time.
5. The Matrix (1999)
Top 10 Action Movies: The Matrix totally shook the industry of films as well as the world with its never-before-seen f/x and the thrilling storyline that packed a philosophical depth that no other action movie had ever had at the time. 6. Lethal Weapon (1987)
The buddy-movie genre has been tight and on point. Lethal Weapon series probably took a long way from the beginning and became a jest of itself. However, the Riggs and Murtaugh chemistry of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover kept the thrill and action and made it even more enjoyable and blasting.
7. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
This action-comedy of Steven Spielberg, filled with action sequences and jokes, tells the story of Indiana Jones who was chased by friends and enemies, a ride that was so action-packed, funny, and at the same time like it came out of a serial. Indy will continue to be the representative figure of action adventures for all time, and the name of Harrison Ford.
8. John Wick (2014)
Top 10 Action Movies: The director and the action star were able to adjust to the modern era and thus created martial arts that were as much power pack, and Keanu was one of the pioneers who took action movies onto a new level. John Wick was an action film intended for an adult audience, a hybrid of an Eastern and a Hollywood bloodbath, but then it gradually turned into gun fighting.
9. Aliens (1986)
What James Cameron did with the sequel to the film Alien- it was an unexampled combination of two themes, in horror and in action, that basically put the one character, Ripley, on the top of the big heap of action heroines. This movie is one of the best in both genres, sci-fi and action, because it has the scenes that are like straight electric firefights or controlling the scarce air in the confined rooms.
10. The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Top 10 Action Movies: A big-budget historical film, Gladiator is nothing less than an epic story with a grand emotional touch. Maximus is a great example of a hero who was partly betrayed by both his desire for revenge and his decision-making that is brave, and his quotes are still relevant today.
